Our bodies are extremely powerful when it comes to self-healing and rejuvenation; the innovative science behind Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is one example. Having access to the most cutting-edge treatments, including PRP therapy, is one of the many perks of being a St. Petersburg Skin and Laser patient.
What is Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy?
PRP is a non-surgical treatment for skin rejuvenation. Platelet-rich plasma is filled with growth factors that have a wide range of regenerative properties.
How Does PRP Treatment Work?
Our staff draw a small tube of blood that is then placed in a centrifuge. The blood is spun, separating the platelets and plasma from other components of the blood (red blood cells, white blood cells, etc). This extract is then injected into or placed on the desired treatment areas.
PRP in Dermatology
Due to PRP’s restorative properties, it has become a valuable treatment option in Dermatology. The growth factors in plasma boost the production of collagen, the main structural protein in skin tissue. When used correctly, PRP can help skin regain its natural aesthetic that looks younger and feels firmer.
PRP therapy has also shown to be effective in treating hair loss for men and women. The patient’s own PRP is injected into the scalp where it stimulates the growth and regeneration of hair follicles, causing hair to regrow without the pain, side effects, and discomfort associated with other hair therapies.
What are the side effects of PRP treatment?
Side effects from treatment with PRP are generally mild and may include bruising and mild pain at the sites injected with PRP. These are temporary and generally go away within minutes to hours of the treatment.
When will I see results of PRP treatments?
Depending on how the PRP is used in your rejuvenation treatment plan, results may be seen at 8 weeks after treatment and generally continue to improve for 3-6 months after.
Can PRP be combined with other rejuvenation procedures?
Yes! PRP is ideally combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures including laser resurfacing, Aquagold Microneedling, and Radiofrequency Microneedling. Our Dermatologists will discuss with you all of the options to enhance your anti-aging regimen with the addition of PRP.
